Table Topics | Favorite Quotation

My friend Alli gave me this great Table Topics set for my birthday recently. Thought it would be fun to pick one at random every few days and blog my response! Figured this would be fun, challenge me to think outside the box a little about what to write here, and yet make it easy to think of topics!

So here we go.

what's your favorite quotation

This is an inter sting one to start with. I am actually not huge on quotes, but lately I have been paying more attention to them and even seeking them out.

Here are some of my favorites from as far back as I can remember:
  • Travel and change of place impart new vigor on the mind. (Seneca)
  • If you can dream, but not make dreams your master. If you can think, but not make thoughts your aim. (Rudyard Kipling - If)
  • Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. (Johan Wolfgang von Goethe)
  • Never permit a dichotomy to rule your life, a dichotomy in which you hate what you do so you can have pleasure in your spare time. Look for a situation in which your work will give you as much happiness as your spare time. (Pablo Picasso)
  • It will all work out in the end. If it hasn't worked out, it's not the end. (unknown)
  • Life is a banquet and most poor bastards are starving to death. (Auntie Mame)

As I mentioned, lately I have been seeking out quotes more. Here are a few more recent additions to my list:
  • Freedom comes from being bold.
  • If adventures will not befall a young lady in her own village, she must seek them abroad. (Jane Austen)
  • Happiness depends upon ourselves.
  • Life seems but a quick succession of busy nothings. (Jane Austen)
  • If you want to be happy, be. (Leo Tolstoy)
  • No medicine cures what happiness cannot. (Gabriel Garcia Marquez)
  • Happiness is not a goal ... it's a byproduct of a life well lived. (Eleanor Roosevelt)
  • Comparison is the thief of joy.
  • The world is a book and those who don't travel only read one page.
  • You only live once. But if you do it right, once is enough. (Mae West)
  • To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all. (Oscar Wilde)

One more thing traveling has taught me

Awhile ago I did one of my favorite posts ever, The 31 Things That Traveling Has Taught Me ... So Far. One of my all time favorites. And I need to do a version 2.0 because my country count is up.

Anyway ... here is one I want to add now ...

32. Never ever (ever) leave your iPhone on the table at a restaurant. Even when you are sitting right there, next to it. Ever. Especially in Barcelona. Don't do it. No, this didn't happen to me. It happened to my mom when I was sitting right next to her. Grrrrr.

My mom's phone ... days before it was so cruelly stolen in Barcelona. The photo she was taking is clearly lost forever. Still super upset about this!

Back at the Beginning

I would like to say that life has been very busy lately and make excuses for why I haven't been blogging. And in some ways, that's true. Life has been busy. But it's not the full picture. It would be more accurate to say that there has been a lot going on in life. That's not the same as busy. "A lot going on" speaks to other things going on besides rushing around.

Anyway. I'm here now. So how about an update?

  • I'm still working with the same company I have been with for 7 years, but I changed to a new and more complex role in May. Lots to learn and new challenges, but I appreciate that I am learning new things and growing in my career.
  • I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Spain for 10 days in late May with my parents. It was a great road trip that took us to Valencia, Sevilla, Granada, Gibraltar, Cadiz and Barcelona. It was an awesome trip that brought back lots of memories from my study abroad in BCN. I'll try and write something soon about that trip.
  • Summer in Minneapolis has come ... and it's going too quick! Seriously. It is already 2/3 over? When did that happen?
  • I started biking this summer and am really enjoying getting fresh air and going out. Minneapolis is awesome for bike paths and great riding. You pretty much never have to go on an actual road. Thank goodness ... 'cause I do not want to deal with traffic.
  • I've been failing at the diet/exercise thing.
  • I turned 30 in July. Yikes.
  • Last night I screened a preview of Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. Awesome.

That's enough for now ...
